Linn County Parks is recruiting to fill a full-time Construction & Maintenance Worker 1 position.

  CLASSIFICATION TITLE OF THE JOB:  Parks Construction & Maintenance Worker I                                                                                         CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY:  SEIU CLASSIFICATION NUMBER:  837                                                                                                                                                                                  PAY RANGE:  13 CLOSING DATE:  April 30, 2024  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: A person employed in this classification must possess the capability to perform the following duties to be considered for this position. The duties are essential functions requiring the critical skills and expertise needed to meet job objectives.

  • Maintain, repair and construct park and museum buildings, water and waste water systems, utilities, storage sheds, parks equipment, trails, signs etc.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on vehicles, tractors, attachments, mowers and small engine power tools; Keep records of service to vehicles and equipment.
  • An ability to understand, learn, repair and operate simple and complex Drinking water distribution systems in the parks while complying with OHA drinking water regulations.
  • Clean & stock park facilities, remove trash, collect garbage and remove leaves, mow lawn areas, trim bushes, shrubs, trees etc.
  • Respond to inquiries from the general public; enforce rules governing park Collect camping and day-use fees.
  • During the summer recreation season, employee may be required to work a flexible schedule, work on weekends with two mid-week days off. Employee may also be required to work on three holidays (Memorial Day, Fourth of  July, and Labor Day).

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Four years of experience in the construction and/or maintenance trades, preferably with two years of experience in park construction and/or maintenance. Graduation from a senior high school or any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the work described. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:  Considerable knowledge of the materials, tools and equipment used in park maintenance and construction. Knowledge of park rules and regulations. Knowledge of herbicides, pesticides and their application.  Ability to operate heavy & small equipment, power and hand tools. Ability to perform construction trades; i.e. masonry, mechanical repair, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding and painting. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently while prioritizing work tasks to most efficiently use your time.  Ability to use computers and digital technology. An ability to be on an On Call rotation with other maintenance staff. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:  Ability to obtain a valid State of Oregon Chauffeur' License class B with an air brake and combination endorsement and maintain an acceptable driving record. Ability to obtain a valid State of Oregon public pesticides and herbicides application license. Must pass a criminal history check. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: An ability to weld with TIG, MIG and Arc equipment, proficient at using plasma and gas cutting equipment, competent at metal fabrication, an ability to use electronic diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and repair vehicles, an ability to work on older (carbureted) vehicles and an ability to perform body repairs on vehicles. An ability to safely drive in extreme and adverse weather conditions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed outdoors in all types of weather and in all Linn County park locations. Work requirements include the ability to see, talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop and kneel. The ability to use hands to finger, handle or operate objects, tools or controls, to reach with hands and arms and to lift or move ninety (90) pounds. SALARY, BENEFITS, COMPENSATION:  COMPENSATION: Salary range is $4,322.00 – $5,509.00 per month (DOQ) plus comprehensive benefit package, including health insurance and County paid Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) contributions.
