Linn County Parks is recruiting for a full-time Ranger at Clear Lake Resort.

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT ORIGINAL POSTING DATE:  April 15, 2024  CLASSIFICATION TITLE OF THE JOB:  Park Ranger 1 CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY: SEIU CLASSIFICATION #:  835 DEPARTMENT:  Linn County Parks and Recreation LOCATION:  Clear Lake Resort which is located in the beautiful Willamette National Forest. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: A person employed in this classification must possess the capability to perform the following duties to be considered for this position. The duties are essential functions requiring the critical skills and expertise needed to meet job objectives.

  • Manages operations of resort facilities to include lodge retail space, restaurant, cabins, yurts, boat rentals, park trails etc.
  • Work with and supervise work activities of temporary seasonal employees; assign duties and evaluate work results.
  • Perform general park maintenance including cleaning park grounds; picking up litter; cleaning and restocking restroom facilities; collecting and depositing garbage into receptacles; removing leaves; applying herbicides and pesticides; mowing lawn areas; trimming shrubs and trees; repairing mowers, tractors and attachments; repairing vandalized park facilities; operating, maintaining and repairing wastewater treatment and portable water systems.
  • Construct park and museum buildings, trails, picnic tables, benches, footbridges, fire pits and signs; develop landscapes; install restroom fixtures, lights, etc.
  • Start and stop generators at required hours; fuel generators; service generators.
  • Operate a bobcat and other County vehicles for snow removal; maintain roads/walkways for safety of guests and staff.
  • During the summer recreation season, employee will be required to work a flexible schedule, including weekends with two mid-week days off. Employee will be required to work on three holidays (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day).
  • Develop and maintain effective, harmonious and reasonable work relationships with others.
  • Maintain regular and predictable work attendance.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
  • Considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations governing park activities.
  • Ability to enforce park rules and regulations, County Code and document enforcement actions.
  • Knowledge of safety and health regulations relating to park operations and food handling/preparation.
  • Considerable knowledge of park operations including; sewer, water and electrical systems and emergency controls.
  • Considerable knowledge of the materials, tools and equipment used in park maintenance and construction.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance to park buildings and facilities; perform janitorial services, including the use of chemicals.
  • Ability to perform construction trades preferred; i.e. masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding and painting.
  • Ability to follow directions, manage multiple tasks to parks standards and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to organize and schedule work tasks; work independently; problem solve; be proactive.
  • Position requires frequent standing, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, twisting, and repetitive forward and overhead reaching.  Ability to lift/carry 50lbs. and push objects weighing up to 90 pounds; ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time.
 EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
  • Two years of experience in parks and/or resort operations or any satisfactory equivalent of experience, education and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the work described.
  • Prior restaurant/retail experience preferred.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of the equivalent GED Certificate.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to obtain a valid Class B Commercial driver’s license.
  • Have the ability to obtain a State of Oregon Public pesticides and herbicides application license.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have a valid Oregon Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be 18 years old at the time of hire.
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, a First Aid/AED Card and a food handler’s card.
COMPENSATION: $4,322 - $5,509 per month (DOQ), plus excellent comprehensive benefit package including health insurance and County paid Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) contributions.  On site housing is available.
